"What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness."
(John Steinbeck)
As much as Winter is often regarded as one of dormancy, rest and reflection, there is no holding back the energy and growth of your precious child/ren. Fresh challenges, exploration and ongoing stimulation are the order of the day – every day.
Join us for 12 weeks this winter, and you’ll never run out of ideas and inspiration for keeping your littles active and entertained, stimulated and educated!Â
What can you expect?
A 12-week holistic and Winter-inspired programme packed with fun activities, stories, songs, rhymes and reflections.
Monday - Friday daily planners are provided, with each week following a different Primary Theme which will appeal to the very young - and young at heart!
That is 60 days of fun-filled, creative and challenging activities that you can enjoy with your little ones. It is designed to stimulate their imaginations, get little bodies moving and tap into their inherent creativity.
The progamme is structured to take you step-by-step, day-by-day through the week. The RHYTHM or routine of each morning’s activities remains the same and the rotation of the daily activity focus areas is repeated each week so that a familiar and comforting pattern is established for both you and your young ones.Â
In essence, the programme is modelled on that of many a preschool, but the remarkable and wonderful difference is that you are able to bring it into your very own home where every young child feels most at ease... and who better to lead the littles through it than the carer who loves him/her best!Â
Primary and Secondary Themes
The PRIMARY THEME always refers to the seasonal theme – in this case it is WINTER.
Having an unshakeable and consistent reference point in our natural world as to the passing of time is a wonderful anchor, particularly when one seeks to instil an awareness and sensitivity towards Nature and everything it.
The SECONDARY THEMES are those that stretch over each week and to which the activities, crafts, songs and rhymes and stories are linked.
The Secondary Themes in this programme include: A Basketful of Apples, Everybody needs a House, Icy Places and The World of Birds
Activity-focussed Weekly Rotation
For each of the five mornings of the (working) week there is a SPECIFIC ACTIVITY FOCUS which remains constant throughout the programme. In this programme the rotation is as follows:
Monday: PAINTING
Tuesday: MODELLING - with playdough, clay, construction etc,
Wednesday: BAKERS DAY - everybody’s favourite! Baking and cooking involving many layers of skills and learning opportunities.
Thursday: THIRSTY THURSDAY - physical activities and challenges that extend and develop gross motor skills.
Friday: NURTURING NATURE DAY - Attention on outdoors and everything to do with our natural world, exploring ways in which your child/ren can give something back.
Daily Routine
Each day the ROUTINE remains the same.
There are four basic areas of focus in each day. They can be referred to as ‘rings’ or ‘circles’ and they form the framework onto which all the elements of the programme are hung.
They are:
GREETING RING AND SENSORY PLAY - easing into the day in a gentle manner with a simple and tactile sensory activity.
MOVEMENT AND RHYME CIRCLE - managed physical movement set to theme-based songs, poems and rhymes, followed by some free-play time.
ACTIVITY FOCUS - specific activities according to the weekly rotation, e.g. painting or baking.
STORY TIME - sharing of theme-based stories to bring the day's activities to a close.
